Privacy policy

What we collect

• Access logs — IP address, browser and device type, which pages you visited and when, and the referring page. These are produced by the server and by the CDN, analytics and security services we use, are kept under each of their own policies, and are used for security and to see which pages people read. When /go/ sends you to a provider, and when you open an article, we also count unique clicks or reads per day by IP address: the IP is stored only as a salted hash used for that day's de-duplication, deleted after two days and not reversible to the address itself;
• Aggregate analytics — page views, rough region, bounce and time on page. These are counts, used to judge whether the content is any good. They are not used to work out who you are;
• Preferences — your currency (¥/$) and language, stored in two cookies (shj_currency and NEXT_LOCALE). They travel with the request so the first render already shows the right currency and language;
• Affiliate redirect marker — once /go/ has sent you through a provider's affiliate link, we set a cookie named like go_aff_provider. Its value is always 1, it expires after one hour and it is only sent with /go/ redirect requests. Its one job: within that hour, further clicks on that provider's plans that have no product-level affiliate link go straight to the product page instead of through the affiliate home page again;
• AI search counter — the first time you use the AI search on the home page we set one cookie with a random id (shj_ai_client). It only counts how many AI searches this browser has run in the last hour; past the limit you get the plain keyword search instead. The id is random, contains nothing about you, expires after six months, and clearing it just restarts the count;
• IP checker input — an address you type into the checker is used for that lookup only. It is not logged and not stored;
• Form submissions — what you write when submitting a provider or a correction, plus contact details if you choose to leave them, used only to handle that request.

Cookies and third parties

This site and the third-party services it uses (content delivery, analytics, security) may store a small number of cookies or similar local data in your browser. There are two purposes: remembering your preferences (currency, language) and anonymous analytics and security. We do not use them for ad targeting, and we do not sell or share your personal information with third parties for advertising.

When you follow an affiliate link to a provider’s site, that provider sets its own cookie to attribute the commission. That is governed by the provider’s privacy policy and is outside our control.

What you can do

You can clear this site’s cookies in your browser at any time, or block the analytics script with your browser or an extension — currency and language simply go back to their defaults, and nothing else breaks. You can also ask us to delete personal information you sent through a form: email [email protected] and we will handle it within 15 business days.

Minors

This site is meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.

Changes to this policy

When this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it. If a change is substantial, we will say so somewhere you can see it on the site.
